Hi there,

I'm a Catalan and Spanish translator and subtitler.

Marina, a Catalan and Spanish Translator, sitting under blossoming cherry trees.

Hi, my name is Marina! I’m a native Catalan and Spanish translator working from English and Japanese.

I specialise in the fields of education, sustainability and international development, and I use my subtitling skills and passion for video game localisation to work towards better media accessibility.

A Catalan and Spanish translator with a background in Japanese Studies

I hold a BA in East Asian Studies by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. During the course of the degree, I studied at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto for a year.

Thanks to my studies and experience of living in Japan, I am a professional you can trust to convey the meaning of a Japanese text into the target language accurately as well as fluently.

Professional subtitling
(including spotting!)

I trained as a professional subtitler during my MA in Audiovisual Translation Studies at the University of Leeds. The MA equipped me with the skills to provide frame-accurate time-coded subtitles, including captions for deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences.

My subtitles follow target-country guidelines and I keep abreast of the latest research on how viewers process subtitled text. This enables me to ensure that the subtitles I provide are perfectly suited to the target audience.

Committed to quality
and lifelong learning

I am a Professional member of the Spanish Association of Audiovisual Translation and Adaptation (ATRAE) and of SUBTLE, and an Associate member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) as well as a member of its regional branch, Yorkshire Translators and Interpreters (YTI).

I abide by the Codes of Professional Conduct of these professional bodies and I am committed to professional development. Rest assured that your translations are in good hands.

Making a difference

I firmly believe that language services play a key role in making the world a better place by enabling communication between people. Understanding each other is more important than ever in the face of climate change and flagrant inequality.

My mission is to put my skills to good use and add my grain of sand to achieve a fairer and greener world. Therefore, working with clients who share my values of sustainability and respect for all living beings is of vital importance to me.
